Working from home (13)

Week #15 and #16: The new normal. What is it, the new normal? The last two weeks, we were supposed to be regular BackToTheOffice. I haven’t been there every day, but most. Some colleagues are there every day, some are still working from home. Especially those with young children.

Working in the office is not the same, when so many people are still not there at the same time. But it’s a welcome escape from home. There is a fear that working from home has worked so well for many of us mouse pushers that after Covid-19 there will be less workplaces in the offices. I am used to working in global virtual teams. But it wouldn’t be the same if I always had to work from a distance.

What I like most about working in the office is that you can leave work behind when you are on your way home. I was always cycling, only once not. It is warm and dry, but not too hot. The latest evidence.

The Corona-Warn-App has over 14 million installs until now. Download and activate it now if you live in Germany if you haven’t already done so!

Yesterday the school ended for children #2 and #3. They got their certificates and they were really good. Especially under these circumstances. The anticipation for the school holidays was much less than usual, because there was nothing to do at school every second day for weeks. Fortunately, music school and sports continued for the first time during the holidays

Child #1 was the first time alone with the car on a day trip. From dawn till dust. It was so happy that it told me about it in exuberance for a long time. Mainly about the trip, not about the amusement park. Except that the rules of hygiene were pretty well observed there. Everything can be an adventure the first time.

I have read a lot of good posts, articles or essays about #blacklivesmatter, #inclusion and #diversity, which is not the same, but uses the same mechanisms.

A lot of people get hung up on the word privilege. Privilege does not mean that you are rich, that you’ve had an easy life, that everything’s been handed to you, and you’ve never had to struggle or work hard. All it means is that there are some things in life that you will not experience, or ever have to think about, just because of who you are.

If not us, then who?

„I am not a racist“ is not the same as „there is no racism“

I, as a White person, have benefited from racist systems…

I am not a racist, but there is racism.

Inclusion is about what we are all going to do together and we can’t do it on our own. So, inclusion will only be successful when we are all at this.
