Working from home (12)

Week #14: Because of the Corona virus pandemic, I survived the fourteenth week of working from home. One day off due to child #1 18th birthday and one day in the office to sign at least 35 documents. So only the last three days in the last week, where I was working from home officially. From next week on we are supposed to be regular BackToTheOffice.

BackToTheOffice

As long as the colleagues do not belong or live with someone in the risk group, or have to look after their children, or there is not enough distance where they work. The firm was and is very generous here: Health is paramount.

Another reason to be proud to work here, my colleagues did a great job advising the Federal Ministry of Health on the implementation of the official Corona-Warn-App, which was launched this week. It should help to detect and interrupt infection chains faster and easier. If a user tests positive and records this test result in the app, other users are informed about relevant contact/encounters with the infected person. For the first time in Germany, everything is going completely right in a government IT project! Designed as open-source from the beginning, full transparency, decentralised data storage, data minimising, in cooperation with Apple and Google. Unbelievable. Download and activate it now if you live in Germany! 10 million installs until now.

There are some critics who say that people in precarious position do not have a sufficiently modern smartphone, the app is in German or English and they cannot understand it, their living situation promotes the spread of the virus. Like the slaughterhouse contract workers at Tönnies. What a to be expected scandal, 2/3 of them are tested positive. #blacklivesmatter although most of them are not black. Paying them a fair wage that does not force them to live in collective housing would be more helpful than any app.

But we must do one thing without forgetting to change the other. And wash your hands. And wear a mask. Please.
