There’s an app for that (2)

You already know that I know nothing about football. I have to quote the next best English ex-kicker to be able to say something about it. But I do know something about Tech. And as a German, of course, I also know about Data Protection. The Corona-Warn-App (which we proudly helped with) is now a year old and, in my eyes, a huge success!

In the meantime, the app has been downloaded 29 million times. 16 million test results have been uploaded. Of these, 777,000 were positive, of which 61% were shared.

Contact diary, key data display, possibility to voluntarily share data, QR code generator and reader (we use them in our German offices), digital proof of quick tests and vaccination were integrated. There is a kit for supporters in German, English, Arabic, Turkish, and also in easy language.

Here, for the first time in Germany, everything went completely right. In a government IT project! Everything has been set up as open-source from the start, full transparency, decentralised data storage, data minimisation, in cooperation with Apple and Google. I can’t believe I’m still experiencing this.

And that’s what some people see as a fail…
