Exactly one year ago, a right-wing extremist shot nine fellow citizens in my neighbourhood, in Hanau, for racist reasons. #SayTheirNames Nesar was born, in school, studied, worked here, it was his Heimat. He had tattooed the postcode!

Update from 21:53 h: Brillant essay on Nesar and his surviving brother (zeit.de).
Update from 20 February: Eintracht supports SayTheirNames: During the warm-up before the match against Bayern, the players wear the names and pictures of the victims on their backs (faz.net).
Then this pandemic came. Most colleagues are still working from home to get the incidences down. Here we are well below 50 but still a long way from 35. The trend of the last few weeks is already faltering. Meanwhile, the AstraZeneca vaccine is being badmouthed and China lab conspiracies are circulating again – would it change anything?
The last weekend, beautifully freezing cold with bright sunshine here, is turning into a disaster in Texas. There, they are experiencing that climate change is real, which many (not only there) still confuse with weather variations. Mass traffic jams with deadly accidents because no snow removal service has ever been needed. Power outages because everyone is heating with fan heaters…but does the US not has a power grid? Texas wanted to avoid federal regulations and therefore isolated its grid. Now the water reservoirs and pipes are freezing and bursting. Good luck, Texans, with all my heart.
These are the three major threats of our time.
